Veganism has become the new mantra in the wellness industry with many influencers encouraging people to switch to this ethical way of life. If there is any truth in the saying “what goes around comes around”, there is every chance for us to taste a bit of our own medicine for all the harm we are inflicting on nature. Veganism is a humble effort to save the environment by stopping the cruelty towards nature’s beings. Let us take a look at the factors that inspire people to consider veganism.
Prevention Of Animal Slaughter
If you have a hard time watching animal abuse and slaughter, a vegan diet will eliminate the last bit of guilt from your mind. Although it may seem less conspicuous, the milk and egg industries are also roped to livestock slaughter like the meat industry is, but in a different way. Unlike the meat industry, the dairy and egg industry does not involve animal slaughter directly. In dairy farms, the cows are impregnated every year to increase milk production, meaning that millions of calves are borne every year. A majority of the male calves are butchered for their meat when they are only weeks or months old.
Crowded Factory Farms
Extreme crowding imposed on animals is a sign of cruelty against animals. The hens are kept in small battery cages that do not have enough space for the birds to move around. They spent their entire lives in these tiny spaces. The state of pig farms is no different. Standard sized crates do not allow any kind of normal movement and the females used for breeding have to spend their entire lives in gestation. If pig crates are not maintained well, the pigs develop lung lesions on being continuously exposed to ammonia vapors produced by pig urine.
When kept in crowded spaces, the frustrated animals will probably turn aggressive and hurt one another. Pigs that are kept in overcrowded spaces will bite each other’s tails and the workers at factory farms cut off their tails and clip their needle and teeth. To stop hens kept in battery cages from pecking each other to death, workers sear off the beaks of the hens using a hot blade. The process is extremely painful and some birds cannot even drink or eat anything after their mouths are amputated.
If you are a peace-loving person who does not want your lifestyle choices to lead to cruel acts against animals, no lifestyle will suit you better than veganism.
